High A Dish: Pucetas’ Run Comes To An End

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Stockton (Athletics) center fielder Corey Brown helped his team to a 6-3 win over Bakersfield (Rangers). Brown was 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. His average is up to .268 and he now has 13 home runs on the season.

Prospect Nuggets

Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) blew out Lake Elsinore (Padres) 12-2 behind strong performances by righthander Jordan Walden, catcher Hank Conger and center fielder Peter Bourjos. Walden threw five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out five and improved to 3-2, 4.60. Conger was 1-for-4 with his ninth home run, a three-run shot in the first inning. Bourjos was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs…San Jose (Giants) righthander Kevin Pucetas saw his streak of perfection come to an end yesterday. He fell to 10-1, 2.73 after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings. He walked just one and struck out five. It was his first loss since Sept. 1, 2007.
What To Watch For Today

Rancho Cucamonga has a half-game lead over Lancaster in the Southern Division standings. The Quakes will take on Lake Elsinore tonight. The Storm is only three games behind Rancho Cucamonga.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Kinston (Indians) first baseman Beau Mills did everything he could to help Kinston win, but nobody could rally around him. Still he earns today’s honor after going 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. The triple was his third while the home run was his 20th.

Prospect Nuggets

Frederick (Orioles) couldn’t stop Mills, but the Keys stopped his teammates and provided some fireworks of their own. Third baseman Billy Rowell was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Right Fielder Brandon Tripp was also 2-for-4 with a double. He scored twice…Righthander Tim Bascom got the win for Frederick. He allowed just one run on three hits over six innings. He walked one and struck out eight.

What To Watch For Today

Only three games are scheduled today and lefthander Ross Detwiler will start the one between Potomac (Nationals) and Kinston.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Lakeland (Tigers) shortstop Cale Iorg played just eight games in July after going on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. He was already struggling after he hit .216/.337/.307 in June. He’s back in the lineup now and has three multi-hit games since returning. Yesterday he was 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Prospect Nuggets

The Flying Tigers fell to Tampa (Yankees) 4-3 yesterday. Righthander Cody Satterwhite continued his torrid start to his career, pitching 1 1/3 inning, allowing a walk and striking out one…Tampa righthander Zach McAllister had the interesting line of the day. Normally a starter, McAllister came in and pitched the last four innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. He lowered his ERA to 1.94 and earned his first save.

What To Watch For Today

Daytona (Cubs) is just one game behind Jupiter (Marlins) in the East standings. These two teams finish a three-game series tonight and a win for Daytona would give them a tie for first with just a couple weeks left in the season.
