California League
Prospect Of The Day
Though his overall numbers don’t really show it, Jason Place has made great improvements over this season. The Lancaster (Boston) outfielder hit .320/.405/.546 in June, easily the best month of his career. Last night he added a little to his power numbers by going 2-for-5 with a double, home run and two RBIs.
Prospect Nuggets
Rancho Cucamonga’s (Angels) Hank Conger was back behind the plate last night. He’s been spending most of his time as the DH after returning from an injury. He went 3-for-5 last night with an RBI…Stockton’s (Athletics) Chris Carter got a start in right field last night, one of four positions he’s played this season, and went 2-for-3 with his 34th home run of the season. He also had two RBIs and scored twice…Carter’s teammate, catcher Josh Donaldson, went 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two RBIs and two runs scored…High Desert shortstop Carlos Triunfel went 2-for-5 with a double, RBI and two runs scored.
What To Watch For Today
In his last start, Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright went 6 2/3, allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out nine and took the loss against San Jose (Giants). Today he can get revenge as he goes up against the Giants again.
Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
Kinston (Indians) catcher Carlos Santana was at it again last night. Even his mediocre nights are worthy of consideration. He went 2-for-4 with a double, his third, and run scored.
Prospect Nuggets
Frederick (Orioles) righthander Brandon Erbe had another rocky outing last night. He went seven innings allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four. He took the loss to drop to 9-11, 4.24…Prospect highlights have been hard to come by in the Carolina League lately with most them moving on to Double-A or simply not performing up to expectations. Frederick third baseman Billy Rowell saw his line sink to .229/.298/.348 after going 0-for-4 last night.
What To Watch For Today
Frederick righthander Pedro Beato will look to bounce back from making the Not So Hot list last week. He takes the hill against Potomac (Nationals).
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Today’s FSL honor goes to Pete Kozma, Palm Beach’s (Caridnals) shortstop. He was 2-for-6 last night with a double, run scored and three RBIs. He’s now hitting .261/.320/.391 in 23 at-bats since his promotion for low Class A Quad Cities.
Prospect Nuggets
A couple of Sarasota (Reds) sluggers put in a bid for POTD last night. Third baseman Juan Francisco was 2-for-5 with his 20th home run, three runs scored and an RBI. Shortstop Todd Frazier was 1-for-5 with a double and run scored…Tampa (Yankees) lefthander Wilkins de la Rosa is working on a transition to the mound. The 23-year-old made his first high Class A start last night. He went 5 1/3, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out four.
What To Watch For Today
With the amount of rain Florida gets, it’s almost a sure bet you’ll have a doubleheader played somewhere. Lakeland (Tigers) and Clearwater (Phillies) play tomorrow, starting with the completion of a game that was suspended on July 2.
