High A Dish: Morrison On A Roll

California League

Prospect Of The Day

San Jose (Giants) righthander Tim Alderson continues to baffle hitters in the Cal League. Their only advantage over him, age, has been proven useless as the 19-year-old just keeps mowing them down. Last night he went six innings, allowing just two hits. He didn’t allow any runs or walks and struck out four. He didn’t earn a decision after the bullpen blew a lead and the game went into extras.

Prospect Nuggets

Lake Elsinore (Padres) outfielder Kellen Kulbacki hit is 20th Cal League home run as part of a 2-for-4 night. He drove in three runs…Inland Empire (Dodgers) third baseman Austin Gallagher was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored…High Desert shortstop Carlos Triunfel was 3-for-6 with three runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases. Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Wes Roemer went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven in a no decision.

What To Watch For Today

The Cal League has Monday off.

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

Kinston (Indians) catcher Carlos Santana is melding well with his new team. He’s now hit in six straight Carolina League games and connected for his first home run last night. He finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Prospect Nuggets

Winston-Salem (White Sox) righthander John Ely went head-to-head with Potomac (Nationals) lefthander Ross Detwiler last night. Both have seen their share of bad outings this season and both pitched well last night, but someone has to lose. Detwiler allowed three runs on six hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out seven and was tagged with the loss, falling to 6-8, 5.16. Ely fared better, allowing just four hits over six innings while striking out five and improving to 6-11, 4.83…Lynchburg (Pirates) righthander Brad Lincoln pitched a quality start last night, but didn’t have enough support to earn a decision. He allowed just two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three.

What To Watch For Today

Myrtle Beach (Braves) holds a 3 1/2 game lead over Kinston, but the two teams begin a three-game series tonight and the Indians will try to chip away at that deficit.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Try to stop Logan Morrison (Marlins). We dare you. Since the last hot sheet he is hitting .733/.733/1.400 (11-for-15) with four doubles and two bombs. Yesterday, he went 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, five RBIs and three runs scored.

Prospect Nuggets

Other than Morrison, the prospect performances were thin in the FSL. Lakeland (Tigers) righthander Jonah Nickerson went 5 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four and earning the win to improve to 10-3, 3.58. Righthander Robbie Weinhardt got the save, pitching one inning and striking out one.

What To Watch For Today

Dunedin (Blue Jays) and Clearwater (Phillies) will face off in a doubleheader today, starting at 5 p.m. ET.
