High A Dish: Erbe Contributes To No-Hitter

California League

Prospect Of The Day

Stockton (Athletics) third baseman Chris Carter continues to supply his team with power. He went 2-for-4 last night with his 30th home run of the season, putting him in a tie for fourth among overall leaders.

Prospect Nuggets

Catcher Josh Donaldson was 3-for-4 with his first Cal League triple, but his teammates couldn’t knock him in or provide him with RBI opportunities…Lake Elsinore (Padres) right fielder Kellen Kulbacki was 2-for-4 with a double, his 16th, and an RBI…Bakersfield (Rangers) lefthander Kasey Kiker pitched out of the bullpen last night. He went 2 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three.

What To Watch For Today

Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright (9-6, 4.65) gets the start against San Jose (Giants).

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

The Frederick Keys (Orioles) pitched a combined no-hitter last night with righthander Brandon Erbe doing most of the work. Erbe has been the baseball version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde this season, and Mr. Hyde was at his best last night. Erbe tossed six innings, allowing three walks and striking out seven. Righthander Ryan Ouellete entered in the seventh, recorded an out, but gave up two walks and was relieved by righthander Fredy Deza who pitched 2 2/3 innings of perfection to complete the combined no-no.

Prospect Nuggets

Lynchburg (Pirates) lefthander Daniel Moskos also pitched in relief last night. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in one inning of work…Myrtle Beach catcher Tyler Flowers added a double today as part of a 2-for-3 performance with one RBI. He hit two home runs yesterday and has raised his average to .288.

What To Watch For Today

Righthander Matt McSwain, who recently threw eight innings of no-hit ball for low Class A Hickory (Pirates), returns to Lynchburg and is slated to start tonight.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Jupiter (Marlins) first baseman Logan Morrison could go 0-for-4 the next two days and still be a strong candidate for the Hot Sheet. He was 2-for-4 last night with a run scored. So far, in six August games, he’s hitting .619/.680/1.095.

Prospect Nuggets

Sarasota (Reds) third baseman Juan Francisco was 2-for-5 with a solo home run, his 16th…Brevard County (Brewers) righthander Jeremy Jeffress produced an interesting line: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 2 K. He got the win to improve to 4-6, 4.08…Clearwater (Phillies) lefthander Joe Savery bounced back from an awful start to pitch five innings, allowing one run on four hits. He walked five and struck out three. He improved to 6-9, 4.36…Lakeland (Tigers) lefthander Dontrelle Willis pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits. He struck out six and earned the win, somehow. The good news: He didn’t allow any walks. That’s the first time this season, major and minor leagues, that he’s pitched six or more innings and allowed no walks.

What To Watch For Today

Palm Beach (Cardinals) already has a postseason spot reserved with a first-half title, but the Cardinals are just five games back of Daytona (Cubs), who they’re in the middle of a series with. They won last night and have two more chances to cut into that deficit.
