High A Dish: Conger Leads Quakes To Victory

California Leauge

Prospect Of The Day

Rancho Cucamonga’s (Angels) Hank Conger is taking full advantage of not enduring the wear and tear of catching every day. As the DH yesterday, he was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, leading the Quakes to a 10-6 victory.

Prospect Nuggets

Center fielder Peter Bourjos also chipped in for the Quakes. He was 2-for-5 with a double and run scored…Lake Elsinore (Padres) second baseman Eric Sogard was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the loss to Rancho Cucamonga…Stockton righthanders Henry Rodriguez and Craig Italiano have pitched exclusively out of the bullpen lately. Italiano pitched two innings yesterday, allowing just one walk and striking out three. Rodriguez also went two innings and struck out three.
What To Watch For Today

Righthander Wes Roemer (7-10, 4.45) will take the hill for Visalia (Diamondbacks).

Carolina League

Prospect Of The Day

With just three games scheduled yesterday, the prospect hunt was a little slim. However, Kinston (Indians) catcher Carlos Santana will get another nod after going 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Prospect Nuggets

First baseman Beau Mills backed up Santana with a 2-for-5 day. He had a double and RBI…Right fielder Michael Burgess was considered for today’s honor after homering yet again, and helping Potomac (Nationals) to the 8-4 win over Kinston. He only has seven hits in 31 High A at-bats, but five of them are for extra bases: two doubles and three home runs…Lefthander Ross Detwiler certainly enjoys the company of Burgess. Now he’ll get some more run support. Detwiler earned another victory yesterday after holding Kinston to five hits over 5 1/3 while walking one and striking out four. He is now 7-8, 4.84.

What To Watch For Today

Frederick (Orioles) and Lynchburg (Pirates) both had the day off yesterday, but pick it up again today with the start of a three-game series.

Florida State League

Prospect Of The Day

Dunedin (Blue Jays) first baseman and 2008 first-round pick David Cooper went 2-for-5 with his fourth double, raising his average to .260.

Prospect Nuggets

With Tropical Storm Fay approaching the mainland, the FSL is getting pounded with rain. Four of the six games scheduled for yesterday were called off. Two were postponed while the other two were cancelled all together. In the games that were played, Jupiter (Marlins) first baseman Logan Morrison went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two walks…Daytona (Cubs) second baseman Tony Thomas was 3-for-5 with a stolen base.

What To Watch For Today

The FSL has Tuesday off, which is probably a good thing as the Doppler doesn’t look very pretty.
