California League
Prospect Of The Day
Serving as the DH, Stockton’s (Athletics) Corey Brown put in his share of offense yesterday. He was 2-for-3 with two solo home runs, giving him 16 on the year. But that wasn’t nearly enough as Visalia (Diamondbacks) took the contest, 13-4.
Prospect Nuggets
Lancaster (Red Sox) shortstop Yamaico Navarro had a perfect day, going 4-for-4 with his 12th double…Center fielder Cedric Hunter was 2-for-4 with his 32nd double and second baseman Eric Sogard was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as Lake Elsinore (Padres) took down Bakersfield (Rangers) 10-4…High Desert (Mariners) shortstop Carlos Triunfel was 2-for-5 and was caught stealing for the ninth time this year…Bakersfield first baseman Ian Gac was 1-for-3 and went deep for the 12th time in the Cal League.
What To Watch For Today
Only one game is scheduled for today. Lancaster visits Stockton as the JetHawks try to hold a 3 1/2 game lead over Lake Elsinore in the South Division standings.
Carolina League
It’s tough when a game is rained out in the Carolina League because we go from eight teams to watch, to a mere six. So we’ll go way off the board today and recognize Jerad Head, Kinston’s (Indians) first baseman last night as Beau Mills had the day off. Head was 4-for-5 with a double, triple, two runs and two RBIs.
Prospect Nuggets
Head’s teammate, Carlos Santana, was the DH and went 1-for-3 with a couple of runs scored, an RBI and three walks…Frederick (Orioles) first baseman Brandon Snyder was 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI…Potomac right fielder Michael Burgess collected a couple of hits in four at-bats, but they weren’t for extra bases surprisingly. He also scored a run.
What To Watch For Today
Several prospects take the hill today. Lefthander Cole Rohrbough will start the first game of a doubleheader for Myrtle Beach (Braves). In Lynchburg (Pirates), righthander Brad Lincoln will face Frederick righthander Brandon Erbe.
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Lakeland (Tigers) shortstop Cale Iorg has a had a bumpy return to baseball, but he’s been pretty impressive for taking two years off in Portugal without stepping near a field. Yesterday he was 2-for-5 with a double, home run, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Prospect Nuggets
Lefthander Duane Below got the start and win for Lakeland, going five innings and allowing just four hits while striking out five. He is now 8-7, 4.38…Sarasota (Reds) third baseman Juan Francisco was 1-for-4 while shortstop Todd Frazier was 2-for-4 with a run scored…Dunedin (Blue Jays) first baseman David Cooper was 2-for-4 with his sixth FSL double…Fort Myers (Twins) righthander Deolis Guerra went six innings, allowing one run on three hits and three walks while striking out six to earn his 11th win…Yankees righthander Humberto Sanchez is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and made his first FSL appearance last night, tossing a perfect inning for Tampa while striking out one.
What To Watch For Today
Lefthander Sean West will take the hill for Jupiter (Marlins) as the Hammerheads visit Brevard County (Brewers).
