Prospect Of The Day

We put Yakima centerfielder Collin Cowgill (Diamondbacks) here yesterday, but then proceeded to knock him for hitting home runs and not anything else. Cowgill responded with four hits – three of them home runs – to land as the Prospect Of The Day for the second day in a row. Ten of his 17 hits are home runs and he is hitting a home run every 6.1 at-bats.

Prospect Nuggets

Everitt’s Brett Lorin (Mariners) had another shaky outing Wednesday, allowing two runs on six hits in five innings. After walking just one in 12 1/3 innings in his first three games, Lorin walked four. . . Spokane’s Neil Ramirez (Rangers) was tagged for four runs in 4 2/3 innings in the loss to Yakima. He allowed two of Cowgill’s three home runs. . . David Cooper (Blue Jays) was at it again for Auburn, hitting two doubles to give him eight on the season. . . Jamestown third baseman Paul Gran (Marlins) has hit well in the early stages of the season after being drafted in the seventh round from Washington State. He had three doubles on Wednesday. . . Reese Havens (Mets) may be starting to get it going for Brooklyn. He hit a three-run dinger in the top of the ninth Wednesday that was the difference in a 4-3 win. . .P.J. Dean (Nationals) moved to 2-0 for Vermont by posting six innings of one-hit ball. Dean walked two and struck out five.

What To Watch For

Vermont’s Tom Milone (Nationals) has pitched five innings in relief in two games this season. He will be rewarded with his first start on Thursday.
