Prospect Of The Day
Jason Castro (Astros) joined Tri-City a few days ago, but his first start behind the plate did not come until Thursday. The sixth-overall selection from Stanford promptly went 2-for-4 with a double. The New York-Penn League already has seen a first-rounder promoted (David Cooper), but with Castro getting a late start, he might stay with Tri-City for the rest of the season.
Castro hit third in the order, while Phil Disher (Astros) moved to the cleanup spot for Tri-City. Disher went 2-for-4 and knocked his sixth home run and also had a double. . . Reese Havens and Kirk Nieuwenhuis (Mets) each had two hits with a triple for Brooklyn. . . Josh Vitters (Cubs) continues to stay hot, going 2-for-5 with his 10th double. . . Wilfredo Boscan (Rangers) could not win his seventh game and ended up hitting his first bump in the road. The 18-year old righthander allowed four runs – three earned – in four innings, his shortest outing for a start so far. . . Robert Roth (Phillies) joined the short-season six win club by allowing one run in six innings. The 19-year old Williamsport righthander struck out two and has just 17 in 40 1/2 innings. . . Third baseman Cody Overbeck (Phillies) helped Roth’s cause, going 3-for-4 with his fifth home run and two doubles.
What To Watch For Today
Kenn Kasparek (Mariners) had a dazzling debut earlier this week and he takes the mound for Everett in his second Northwest League start. He will face off against one of Salem-Keizer’s Wilber Bucardo (Giants), a 20-year old from Nicaragua who tossed six hutout innings of his own his last time out.
