Prospect Of The Day
Centerfielder Aaron Hicks (Twins) has not disappointed in the Gulf Coast League. The first-rounder went 2-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base. Hicks has stolen five bases in his last five games and is tearing up GCL pitching with an average of .330.
Hicks’ teammate Tyler Ladendorf, the Twins’ third round selection went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. . . Three rookie leaguers had multiple home runs yesterday. Billings designated hitter Andrew Means (Reds) helped the Mustangs to 17 runs by hitting his second and third dingers of the season and tallying seven RBIs out of the leadoff spot. Second baseman Anthony Delmonico (Dodgers) continued to stroke the ball with a 3-for-5, four RBI effort. It was his first two home runs of the season, but Delmonico is hitting .435 with four doubles and eight RBIs through his first five games. But the most consistent this season of the three has been Orem first baseman Gabriel Jacobo (Angels), who stretched his hitting streak to 10 games with his fifth and sixth homers. He has hit in 19 of his last 20. . . Tyler Sample (Royals) has struggled to find strikes in the Arizona League. The righthander, who was a third round pick, allowed five runs and issued six walks in 2 2/3 innings. Through 12 2/3 innings, Sample has walked 20 and given up 15 earned runs. . . Elizabethton lefthander Daniel Osterbrock (Twins), a seventh-rounder from Cincinnati, held Greeneville to one hit and walked two in seven innings. He struck out a season high 12. Osterbrock threw a complete game on July 5, but his next two starts were rough, as he allowed 10 earned runs in 10 1/2 innings.
What To Watch For Today
It was difficult for Clayton Shunick (Reds) to pitch any worse than his July 13 line: 2/3 inning, nine earned runs, seven hits. The Billings righthander allowed four earned runs on five hits his next time out. He takes the mound against Helena tonight.
