GCL Phillies center fielder Anthony Gose put on an offensive show in Monday’s 4-3 win over the GCL Yankees. Gose, the Phillies second round pick out of Bellflower (Calif.) High School, was 2-for-3 on the day. Gose’s triple led off a three-run fourth inning that would be the difference in the victory. The center fielder would go on to single later in the game, along with picking up his third stolen base of the year.
It was a fairly quiet day on the Rookie level as both the Appalachian and Pioneer Leagues took a day off Monday. . .AZL Athletics center fielder Rashun Dixon continued his tear at the plate in an 8-6 victory over the AZL Mariners. The former two-sport star was 2-for-4 on the day, including a triple. . .AZL Rangers righthander Joe Wieland drew the start on Monday and took the first loss of his professional career. The fourth-round pick of the Rangers went three innings, giving up four hits and an earned run. Wieland struck out a pair of batters while issuing one walk. . .GCL Marlins catcher Kyle Skipworth is showing signs of adjusting to professional pitching. After notching his first professional hit last Thursday, the first-round pick went 2-for-5 on Monday. Skipworth had a pair of singles in the GCL Marlins 5-4 win over the GCL Dodgers. . .Dodgers righthander Yhency Brazoban drew the start for the GCL Dodgers on Monday. Brazoban who has made appearances in the Majors, Triple-A, Double-A and now, the GCL, was limited to only an inning in his rehab outing. Brazoban gave up two hits and a run in the brief outing. . .Yankee reliever Brian Bruney was also working on his rehab on Monday for the GCL Yankees. The righthander, rehabbing a foot injury, gave up one hit and struck out one in his lone inning of work.
What to Watch For Today
The Appalachian and Pioneer Leagues return to action with a full slate of games tonight. It will be a battle of first place teams as Great Falls (White Sox) travels to Orem (Angels) to kick off a four-game set.
