South Atlantic League
Prospect Of The Day
Although we try to spread the wealth with these POTD awards, we can’t look past low Class A home run leader Mike Stanton, who slugged two more long balls last night in Greensboro’s (Marlins) 6-1 win over Lake County (Indians). That gives him 26 for the year. He went 2-for-4 on the night, raising his line for the year to .275/.351/.569 in 360 at-bats.
Prospect Nuggets
Matt Dominguez also went deep for Greensboro, his eighth of the year, part of a 2-for-3 effort … With Che-Hsuan Lin off to play for Taiwan in the Olympics, Ryan Kalish moved over to center field for Greenville (Red Sox) and went 3-for-4 with a double … Rome (Braves) right fielder Jason Heyward went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored … West Virginia (Brewers) right fielder Caleb Gindl went 2-for-5 with a triple and two RBIs as the Power pulled out a 6-5, 12-inning win over Lakewood (Phillies).
What To Watch For Today
The task of slowing down Stanton and Dominguez tonight falls to Lake County lefthander Ryan Morris (7-4, 3.88), as the Grasshoppers and Captains continue their series at 7:00 EDT.
Midwest League
Prospect Of The Day
Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Trevor Reckling recovered from back-to-back rough outings to pitch seven shutout innings last night against Fort Wayne (Padres). He allowed only four hits, one walk and fanned nine to improve to 8-4, 3.12 in 121 innings on the year.
Prospect Nuggets
Dayton righthander Kyle Lotzkar pitched five shutout innings against Burlington (Royals) but didn’t receive a decision in a game Dayton eventually won 4-0. Lotzkar allowed just two hits, but also walked three to go with three strikeouts … The Peoria (Cubs) vs. Kane County (Athletics) game at Wrigley Field was suspended due to rain with the score tied at 6-6 in the ninth inning.
What To Watch For Today
The Peoria-Kane County series shifts back to Peoria tonight. The two clubs will finish the suspended game before playing the regularly scheduled affair starting at 7:00 EDT … West Michigan (Tigers) and Quad Cities (Cardinals) will also play a doubleheader starting at 7:00 EDT.
