California League
Prospect Of The Day
The Mariners could probably get used to this. High Desert shortstop Carlos Triunfel had another big night, going 2-for-6 with a double and a home run in an extra-inning loss to Lake Elsinore (Padres).
Prospect Nuggets
Several other players made good cases for POTD. Stockton (Athletics) second baseman Adrian Cardenas went 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Josh Donaldson was 3-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored…Bakersfield (Rangers) left fielder Chad Tracy was 3-for-4 with two solo home runs. The best was that they came off of Visalia (Diamondbacks) righthander Barry Enright. The two were teammates at Pepperdine. The home runs were just two of four hits that Enright allowed. He went 6 1/3, allowing just the two runs and struck out seven, improving to 9-6, 4.65.
What To Watch For Today
Lancaster (Red Sox) leads Inland Empire (Dodgers) by a half-game. The two teams play in the series finale tonight.
Carolina League
Prospect Of The Day
Myrtle Beach (Braves) shortstop Brandon Hicks has seen his average dip to .232 since the all-star break, but last night he showed a little of what he had in the first half. He went 2-for-5 with his 17th home run, his second in two days, with three RBIs. The Pelicans put up 16 runs on 22 hits to beat Kinston (Indians) 16-4.
Prospect Nuggets
Pelicans outfielder Gorkys Hernandez also had a good night, going 2-for-5 with a couple of runs scored and an RBI…Shortstop Carlos Rivero was 3-for-3 for the Indians, but his teammates couldn’t seem to get much else going to rally around him.
What To Watch For Today
Outside of the Myrtle Beach-Kinston game, there wasn’t much to get excited about yesterday, but righthander Brandon Erbe takes the mound for Frederick (Orioles) today, so maybe that will give something more to write about.
Florida State League
Prospect Of The Day
Serving as the DH last night, Jupiter’s (Marlins) Logan Morrison was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored, helping the Hammerheads to a 6-4 win over Vero Beach (Rays).
Prospect Nuggets
Morrison’s teammate Scott Cousins continued his share of FSL domination, going 2-for-3 with a home run and double…Cubs’ lefthander Rich Hill was with Daytona last night, on his journey back to the big leagues. He started and went three innings, allowing five runs on five hits and three walks. He struck out one and took the loss, falling to 1-2, 8.03…Detroit’s 10th-round pick, Robbie Weinhardt, pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings in relief last night, striking out two and allowing two hits.
What To Watch For Today
Brevard County’s (Brewers) makeup doubleheader with St. Lucie (Mets) was suspended yesterday, a common theme in Florida. But with new series starting today the two teams will have to wait to duke it out for position in the FSL East standings.
