It was another big night for Fisher Cats prospects, while Cardinals third baseman Allen Craig continued to put up big numbers for Springfield.
EASTERN LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
At 5-foot-11, 245 pounds, New Hampshire right fielder Travis Snider (Blue Jays) isn’t the fastest runner. But when he has a game like the one he had yesterday, speed is irrelevant. Snider drew four walks yesterday against Trenton and slugged a home run, giving the 20-year-old Snider 15 home runs on the season for the Fisher Cats.
Prospect Nuggets
Second baseman Scott Campbell, Snider’s New Hampshire teammate, has been on a torrid streak since playing in the EL all-star game. After blasting two homers on Sunday, Campbell followed that up yesterday by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two walks … Connecticut catcher Pablo Sandoval (Giants) is adjusting well to Double-A. Sandoval went 2-for-4 with a double yesterday, raising his Double-A slash stats to .337/.364/.547 in 95 at-bats … New Britain righthander Jeff Manship (Twins) held Reading to two runs (one earned) in six innings, striking out four with just one walk.
What To Watch For Today
New Hampshire lefty Brett Cecil is on the hill tonight at home against Trenton.
TEXAS LEAGUE
Prospect Of The Day
Springfield third baseman Allen Craig (Cardinals) reached base four times yesterday, though the Cardinals fell 10-7 in 13 innings to Northwest Arkansas. Craig went 3-for-5, drew a walk and hit his 25th double, bringing his season line to .299/.364/.499 in 395 at-bats. He has a five-game hitting streak, and his last four games have been multi-hit games.
Prospect Nuggets
Josh Outman’s debut with his new organization was a little rocky. Outman, who came to the Athletics along with second baseman Adrian Cardenas and outfielder Matthew Spencer, was converted to a reliever this year by the Phillies, but started yesterday against San Antonio. The Midland lefthander’s start didn’t last long, however, as Outman left after just 1 1/3 innings. Outman allowed three runs (two earned), gave up two hits and three walks and had no strikeouts … San Antonio right fielder Chad Huffman (Padres) chipped in two hits, going 2-for-4 with a double … Dexter Fowler (Rockies) reached base three times yesterday, as the Tulsa center fielder and 2008 Olympian went 1-for-4 with two walks with three runs scored.
What To Watch For Today
Frisco (Rangers) was the first-half division champion and will look to improve upon the Texas League’s best second-half record today at Midland.
SOUTHERN LEAGUE
The Southern League was out of action yesterday.
