South Atlantic League
Prospect Of The Day
There weren’t a whole lot of standout performances by Sally League prospects yesterday, but the best of the group belonged to Greensboro (Marlins) third baseman Matt Dominguez. After hitting a game-winning grand slam on Wednesday to beat West Virginia, Dominguez kept the good mojo working yesterday against Kannapolis (White Sox) by going 3-for-5 with an RBI in a 10-5 loss. Dominguez raised his line to .339/.405/.500 in 112 at-bats.
Prospect Nuggets
After a couple of back-to-back 0-for-4 efforts, Greensboro’s Mike Stanton also went 3-for-5 as the Grasshoppers’ DH, moving up his line to .291/.348/.578 in 282 at-bats … Delmarva (Orioles) center fielder Matt Angle went 3-for-5 with his second home run of the season and three runs scored in an 11-5 win over Hagerstown (Nationals) … Hickory (Pirates) righthander Brad Lincoln was roughed up by Asheville (Rockies), giving up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits in five innings. On the brighter side, Lincoln fanned five and didn’t walk any.
What To Watch For Today
There will be a pair of doubleheaders today. One will feature Rome (Braves) visiting Savannah (Mets). Lefthander Cole Rohrbaugh (1-2, 6.75) is scheduled to get the start in Game One for the Braves. He’ll be matched up with the Sand Gnats’ Elvin Ramirez (5-6, 3.80) … Lakewood (Phillies) will visit Lake County (Indians) in the other twin-bill. Lefthander Kelvin De La Cruz (5-3, 1.60) is scheduled to start the nightcap for Lake County. De La Cruz is back with the Captains after making an emergency start for Double-A Akron last Saturday. He picked up the win after going five innings and giving up four runs on four hits.
Midwest League
Prospect Of The Day
Kane County (Athletics) center fielder Corey Brown continued his hot week by going 2-for-5 with his 12th home run, a double and three RBIs in a 6-4 loss to Quad Cities (Cardinals). This was Brown’s third straight multi-hit game and his fourth straight with an RBI. He raised his line for the year to .268/.362/.494 in 257 at-bats.
Prospect Nuggets
Beloit (Twins) center fielder Ben Revere returned to the lineup for last night’s game against Clinton, where Revere served as the Snappers’ DH. He went 2-for-4 with a triple as the Snappers shutout the LumberKings 2-0 … Great Lakes (Dodgers) DH Andrew Lambo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base, his second of the year, in a 4-2 win over Lansing (Blue Jays) … Peoria (Cubs) catcher Josh Donaldson went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in a 10-3 win over Burlington (Royals). After struggling through April and May, Donaldson’s offense has come around in June; he’s hitting .300/.340/.480 in 50 at-bats for the month.
