Prospect Of The Day

Rochester righthander Philip Humber (Twins), the third overall pick in the 2004 draft, pitched five innings and scattered five hits without allowing a run. He walked two and struck out six to pick up the win, improving his record to 4-6 for the year.

Prospect Nuggets

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre CF Brett Gardner (Yankees) stayed hot at the plate, with a 2-for-4 night that included his 11th double . . . Pawtucket righthander David Pauley (Red Sox) threw seven strong innings and allowed just one unearned run on four hits. He struck out nine and improved to 10-2.

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

Prospect Of The Day

Memphis lefthander Jaime Garcia (Cardinals) had another fine start, striking out 10 in 6 2/3 innings of work.

Prospect Nuggets

Albuquerque RF Jai Miller (Florida) is as athletic as anyone in the system. He was all-state in three sports in high school, possesses plus-plus speed on the basepaths, and demonstrates all five tools. His showed off the power tool last night. He came to the plate in each of the first two innings and circled the bases each time. The two home runs boosted his total to 13 for the year. He went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs . . .  Iowa 1B Micah Hoffpauir (Cubs) hit a double and a home run as part of a four-RBI day that increased his average to .313 . . . Portland C Nick Hundley (Padres) smashed a game-tying home run in the ninth inning to force extra innings . . .  Fresno righthander Nick Pereira (Giants) pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on three hits. He struck out three . . . Memphis C Bryan Anderson (Cardinals) hit his first Triple-A home run. He’s 21 years old.
