Royals Promote Rosa To Triple-A

The Double-A Texas League’s current ERA leader won’t be holding on to that label much longer. That’s because the Royals promoted Northwest Arkansas righthander Carlos Rosa to Triple-A Omaha today.

Rosa, 23, was outstanding in the TL, compiling a 1.20 ERA through 45 innings in his eight starts. Rosa combined the ability to miss bats with excellent control, racking up 42 strikeouts (8.4 per nine innings) and seven walks (1.4 per nine) for the Naturals. Rosa’s strikeouts and innings both ranked second in the league.

Rosa was a key component of the Naturals’ pitching staff, which ranks first in the league with a 3.59 ERA and in 36 games has issued just 88 walks, the fewest in the TL. While losing Rosa will be a blow to the rotation, 25-year-old lefty Dusty Hughes (3.13 ERA in 31 2/3 innings) and 22-year-old righthander Julio Pimentel (3.15 ERA in 40 innings) also rank among the league’s top 10 in ERA.
