Mike Moustakas went deep again, Tyler Henson had a four-hit game, and Ryan Miller’s teammates bailed him out in Wednesday’s low Class A action.
Prospect Of The Day
Burlington (Royals) shortstop Mike Moustakas has cooled off a little bit since his red-hot start to May, but he’s found his power stroke again this week in impressive fashion. Moustakas went 2-for-5 with a home run, his seventh of the year, last night in Burlington’s 4-1, 11-inning win over Quad Cities (Cardinals). The home run was the second in a set of back-to-back homers in the 11th inning off Quad Cities’ Dylan Gonzalez (David Lough hit the first, a two-run shot). Moustakas hadn’t gone deep since May 6, but he’s now homered in three consecutive games giving him six this month.
Moustakas has fared far better on the road than at home. He’s hitting .294/.323/.564 on the road and only .205/.245/.273 at Burlington’s Community Field, and six of his seven home runs have come away from home. His line for the season improved to .254/.304/.429 in 189 at-bats.
After going more than a month without winning a game, Cedar Rapids (Angels) lefthander Robert Fish has won consecutive starts to improve his record to 3-2. Last night he worked five innings against Peoria (Cubs), giving up two runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts … Lansing (Blue Jays) shortstop Justin Jackson went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in the Lugnuts’ 7-4 loss to Great Lakes (Dodgers) … Great Lakes left fielder Andrew Lambo went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs of his own … Clinton (Rangers) righthander Kennil Gomez (7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) carried a no-hitter into the sixth against Beloit (Twins) before giving up a leadoff double to Snappers shortstop Ramon Santana. Clinton went on to win the game 1-0 in 10 innings.

Prospect Of The Day
Delmarva (Orioles) third baseman Tyler Henson went 4-for-5 with a stolen base and two RBIs in the Shorebirds’ 9-3 victory over Hagerstown (Nationals). Henson raised his line to .294/.329/.386 in 197 at-bats as the Shorebirds pounded out 18 hits against the Suns’ pitching staff.
It looked like Lake County (Indians) ace Ryan Miller (4.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO) was going to suffer his first loss of the season and Lakewood (Phillies) would extend its seven-game winning streak and cut Lake County’s lead in the SAL North to four games as the BlueClaws carried a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth. Their starter, righthander Darren Byrd, had pitched five no-hit innings in his first start for the BlueClaws after being sent down from high Class A Clearwater. But the Captains rallied for two runs in the eighth and two more in the bottom of the ninth against the Lakewood bullpen to steal the win and take Miller off the hook. Captains right fielder Matthew Brown’s walk-off RBI single capped off the comeback … Lakewood center fielder Dominic Brown went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base … Hagerstown right fielder Michael Burgess went 1-for-4.
What To Watch For Today
Charleston (Yankees) righthander Jairo Heredia (2-0, 3.32) makes his second start off the DL tonight against Hickory (Pirates) at 7:05 EDT. He’ll be opposed by Crawdads righthander Brad Lincoln (2-0, 1.80) … Columbus (Rays) lefthander Glenn Gibson (1-7, 7.29) will try again to get things together tonight against Greenville (Red Sox) at 7:00 EDT. Gibson has only one quality start out of the 10 he’s made.
