Triunfel Expected Back Soon

Mariners shortstop Carlos Triunfel hasn’t played since April 7, but Mariners farm director Greg Hunter said Triunfel should be back in the high Class A High Desert lineup within the next few days.

"He had a bit of an abdominal strain," Hunter said. "It’s just kind of been a nagging injury."

Triunfel, 18, is the youngest player in the California League. Last year, Triunfel hit .309/.342/.388 in 164 plate appearances with low Class A Wisconsin and .288/.333/.356 in 225 plate appearances with High Desert. This year, Triunfel has struggled to a 2-for-22 start, hitting .091/.167/.182 with a triple. He ranks No. 62 in the Baseball America Top 100 prospects list.
