SANTIAGO, D.R.–There are rumors swirling around the Dominican Republic, as well as the Internet, that the Indians have signed 16-year-old shortstop Edward Salcedo, but as of today he is still a free agent.
Salcedo’s agent, Scott Boras, is in negotiations with Cleveland, but the two sides are reportedly far apart on the bonus amount. Originally, Boras was looking for $4-to-5 million for the shortstop, and according to several sources in the D.R., the bonus could be somewhere in the $3 million range.
Several Indians officials have denied that Salcedo has signed, and no other clubs have been linked to him.
