Reds’ Jorgensen Suspended

The office of the commissioner announced today that Reds minor league catcher Ryan Jorgensen has received a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s joint drug prevention and treatment program. It was the second drug-related suspension announced Friday.

Jorgensen, a seventh-round pick of the Cubs in 2000 from Louisiana State, was traded to Florida in the same deal that netted the Marlins Dontrelle Willis during spring training 2002. Released by Florida in September 2005, Jorgensen latched on with the Reds as a minor league free agent.

The 28-year-old backstop batted .237/.292/.325 with 16 doubles in 249 at-bats for Triple-A Louisville this season, and had been called up by the Reds in mid-August.
