Brandon Watson is now treading in some rarefied territory.

Watson’s two hits on Saturday night extended his hitting streak to 42 games, tying Jack Lelivelt’s International League record set in 1912. Watson is also now tied for the 11th longest minor league hitting streak of all time. It was the fourth consecutive multi-hit game for Watson, who is hitting .365 during the streak.

A hit on Sunday against Ottawa would give Watson the International League record all by himself and also tie Orlando Moreno (1961, Louisville) for the longest minor league hit streak of the past 50 years. Watson is two games away from tying Pete Rose for the longest professional hit streak of the past half-century.

“I’m having fun with the record and hopefully (Sunday) is another good day, but, if not, I can’t hang my head about it,” Watson told the Associated Press. “Any time you do something like this, you’ll be happy. It’s a great feeling, but in the end I just want to get back to the major-league level.”
