Jeff Samardzija retired all six batters he faced in his first outing out of the Daytona bullpen and followed it up with another 1 1/3 perfect innings on Friday, but the righthander hopes that the move is only temporary.
On his official blog, Samardzija said he’s not happy with the move, but he understands he has to prove he can pitch effectively to get another shot at working every fifth day.
My plan is to get back into the rotation. Soon. It’s hard to imagine ever being comfortable in the bullpen, but if its whats best for the team then ok. Though I did pitch out of the bullpen in spring training with the big league team, but it’s different during the season. I want to know that every five days I can win a game for the Cubs.
