With the Class A all-star games behind us and the short-season leagues beginning play, baseball’s midseason is officially here. For many top prospects it also means a promotion.

Following are the most notable prospect callups:

• The Diamondbacks’ top three picks from the 2006 draft all received promotions: college righthanders Max Scherzer and Brooks Brown move to Double-A Mobile, while high school lefty Brett Anderson heads to high Class A Visalia.

• Braves lefthander Jo-Jo Reyes got bumped up to Triple-A Richmond. Lefty Steve Evarts, a supplemental first-round pick out of high school in 2006, was assigned to Rookie-level Danville.

• A couple of young Orioles–lefthander Zach Britton and outfielder Kieron Pope–begin with short-season Aberdeen.

• Righthander Chris Huseby, the Cubs’ 11th-round pick in 2006, starts at short-season Boise. The club’s first-round pick from last year, outfielder Tyler Colvin, was promoted to Double-A Tennessee.

• The Reds have been busy, moving outfielder Jay Bruce and righthander Johnny Cueto to Double-A Chattanooga, righthander Richie Gardner to Triple-A Louisville and Sean Watson, their second-round pick last year, to high Class A Sarasota.

• Brewers’ 20-year-old shortstop Alcides Escobar was promoted to Double-A Huntsville. When Milwaukee called righthander Yovani Gallardo to the big leagues last week, it also meant promotions for lefthander Manny Parra (to Triple-A Nashville) and righthander Will Inman (to Huntsville).

• In addition to moving righthanders Joba Chamberlain and Ian Kennedy to Double-A Trenton, the Yankees bumped up a pair of outfielders, with Colin Curtis, a fourth-round pick last year, moving to Trenton and 2005 eighth-rounder Austin Jackson going to high Class A Tampa.

• The Athletics promoted shortstop Cliff Pennington to Double-A Midland.

• Phillies righthander Carlos Carrasco moves to Double-A Reading, while outfielder D’Arby Myers, a fourth-round pick in 2006, begins his first full season with short-season Williamsport.

• Giants righthander Henry Sosa, the low Class A South Atlantic League’s top pitcher in the first half, was promoted to high Class A San Jose.

• Three Cardinals’ slugging first basemen moved up: Joe Mather to Triple-A Memphis, Mark Hamilton to Double-A Springfield and Brandon Buckman to high Class A Palm Beach.

• Devil Rays righthander Wade Davis was promoted to Double-A Montgomery after a very strong first half. Righthander Josh Butler takes Davis’ place with high Class A Vero Beach.

• Like high school pitcher John Danks before him, Rangers righthander Eric Hurley, 20, makes the jump to Triple-A Oklahoma three years after being drafted.

• Lefthander Eric Fowler came off the Blue Jays’ disabled list and quickly moved to Double-A New Hampshire.

• The Nationals wasted no time in moving power-hitting outfielder Chris Marrero, a first-round pick out of high school in 2006, up to high Class A Potomac.
