Blue Jays lefthander Ricky Romero is rehabbing from a sore shoulder in extended spring training. He hasn’t appeared in a game for Double-A New Hampshire since May 3.

The sixth overall pick of the 2005 draft from Cal State Fullerton, Romero reached Double-A in his first full season, but has struggled to establish himself at the level. He went 2-3, 2.75 for the Fisher Cats in six August starts to close 2006 on an encouraging note, but he posted just one good start in four tries this year before going down with injury.

The 22-year-old Romero, who got a late start to the 2006 season because of elbow soreness, is expected back in mid to late June.

Marlins righthander Jacob Marceaux, who was working in relief in his repeat of high Class A Jupiter, is recovering from a strained oblique and has not appeared in a game since May 2.

The last pitcher taken in the first round of the 2005 draft (29th overall) and the highest pick ever out of McNeese State, Marceaux was slowed by blisters and nagging injuries with Hammerheads in 2005. As a result, he went just 4-11, 3.99 with 80-49 strikeouts-walks in 117 innings.

Marceaux, 23, has been slowest of the Marlins’ three first-rounders from that draft to develop. High school righthander Chris Volstad and lefthander Aaron Thompson, meanwhile, have established themselves as rotation regulars with Jupiter.
