Mets outfielder Lastings Milledge was diagnosed with sprained ligaments in his right foot and is expected to miss four to six weeks. He hadn’t appeared in a game for Triple-A New Orleans since leaving with soreness in his foot after one at-bat April 23.
The 22-year-old Milledge made the Mets’ Opening Day roster, but batted just three times in two weeks before being dispatched to the minors in favor of No. 5 starter Mike Pelfrey.
Milledge’s injury comes at inopportune time for both him and the club. Big league left fielder Moises Alou is having his throwing shoulder examined today, and New Orleans outfielder Ben Johnson is already on the disabled list with a sprained shoulder.
