Last week, high Class A Winston-Salem and Potomac got into an ugly brawl at Ernie Shore Field that local police wound up having to break up.
Tonight, the Warthogs and P-Nats begin a four-game series in Potomac. And you can bet tensions will be high.
The brawl, which occured on Thursday, left Potomac catcher Brian Peacock–who was coaching first base when the fighting began–with a hairline fracture in his lower back and lefthander Clint Everts with a concussion.
Everts, who sustained a severe blow to the head, missed his scheduled start Friday and is slated to pitch Wednesday against the Warthogs.
One league official claimed nearly every player on both rosters was fined, but only Warthogs second baseman Victor Mercedes was suspended. Mercedes received a three-game suspension from the Carolina League office.
Winston-Salem righthander Derek Rodriguez is scheduled to face Nationals lefthander John Lannan in the opener.
