Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen is coming to life. The speedy center fielder had a pair of doubles and a triple in Double-A Altoona’s 8-7 loss to Bowie on Monday, and now has five hits over his last two games.
Just for fun, we brought up Tigers center fielder Cameron Maybin’s wheels to get to the bottom of just who was the faster guy.
Baseball America: You have game-changing ability on the bases and in the outfield, but who’s faster–you or Maybin?
Andrew McCutchen: Maybin? I don’t know. We never raced . . . I mean, we played with each other, but if you go by the best times, I’d probably say me.
BA: Yeah, but Maybin was running 6.2 60′s this spring . . .
(Veteran third baseman) Chris Truby: Forget those guys. I’m faster.
AM: I guess we’ll see. I believe the 60 times are over now. 90 feet is all that matters. That and getting from first to third and stealing bags. The 60 is ancient history, but I can run a 6.2 60 too by the way.
