[...] Wood’s call-up could have been anticipated given the Angels’ incumbent third basemen were Maicer Izturis and Robb Quinlan, but was still surprising in that he wasn’t on the 40-man roster at the time. Wood went 1-for-his-first-8 in the majors with four strikeouts. Saunders was optioned to the minors when Bartolo Colon returned, despite tossing six shutout innings in his April 20 start against the Mariners. Saunders honored the Virginia Tech shooting victims by wearing the hat of his alma mater. [...]

I agree with you 100%. If he is striking out a third of the time in the minor leagues, that rate would tend to increase when you get to the bigs. Is he that much better of a prospect than what Russell Branyan was in the minor's? I know that Wood is a SS, but he is not going to remain there.

Am I the only one that thinks that this guy strikes out way too much to become an all-star in the bigs? While he's got big power, for me the strikeouts overshadow the HRs. He's got 28 strikeouts in only 79 ABs this year at AAA, and had 149 in 453 ABs last year in AA. Sounds like another big Angels prospect who never panned out: Dallas McPherson.
