By a quirk of scheduling, there’s been a lot of Indians news on the Blog over the past two days. Chris Kline’s trip to Winter Haven happened to coincide with the Indians’ turn for BAPR Plus. And now, there’s news that the Indians have received back both of the Rule 5 picks they had lost in the December draft.

The Athletics returned outfielder Ryan Goleski after he hit only .152 (7-for-46) this spring. Goleski had been the first pick in the Rule 5 draft. The Phillies sent back righthanded reliever Jim Ed Warden after he went 0-1, 5.68 this spring.

Goleski’s return bulks up what was already one of the most crowded positions on the Indians’ depth chart. The signing of Trot Nixon has sent Shin-Soo Choo back to Triple-A where the Indians have too many guys for too few spots. Choo joins Ben Francisco, Franklin Gutierrez, Brad Snyder and Goleski as guys who are ready for Triple-A. In other organization’s Brian Barton would be ticketed for Triple-A after hitting .351/.415/.503 in 151 at-bats at Double-A last season, but the log jam means he’s likely to join Trevor Crowe as part of a talented Double-A outfield, while John Drennen isn’t far behind with his likely assignment to high Class A.
