Welcome To The High School Blog

Greetings high school baseball fans! All of us at Baseball America are excited to bring you a new blog dedicated to featuring news, notes, interviews and videos that keep you up to date in the world of prep baseball. We intend to use this forum to highlight any quick news items that come up as well as notes from games or tournaments we attend just as we do with our other blogs.

The High School Blog will not be limited to highlighting prep players that are prospects for the draft. We'll provide news on interesting games, coaching accomplishments and player feats. Anything we catch wind of that has to do with high school baseball, we'll pass it on.

As always, we encourage you to offer your comments on stories and ask questions. You can e-mail questions or even interesting tips and info to highschoolblog@baseballamerica.com.

Enjoy!

Nathan, thank you all at BA for doing a new HS Blog – much needed I say. Can’t wait to see work from Conor, Dave Perkin, and yourself of course!

Nathan,
Great to see a high school blog, I hope this is a sign that we'll get to see some expanded prep coverage in the future.  A bit off topic, but during today's ESPN chat, Callis identified Daniel Norris as the best 2011 draft eligible pitching prep, and Dwight Smith as the best hitter.  I thought I was fairly in touch with high school prospects, but I've never heard of either of these guys.  Last I heard, Christian Lopes was the hottest thing in the 2011 draft.  Is that not the case?  Thanks.

Christian Lopes is very much in the discussion with Norris and Smith. Not to mention several other guys. It’s still early.

Can you tell me how a team make's the High School Baseball Poll ! I saw Houston Christian play in some big Tournament's this year an they have a great ball club, I think they or in Phoenix,AZ playing in The Eagle Invitational ! They have a season record of 16-3 aganist some of the best team's around, I think you need to take alook at what they have done !

Shawn, we have a committee of 12 members, including myself, that gathers information from many contacts around the country. We compile that information and meet on a conference call every two weeks, not to mention keeping tabs in between polls. After discussing the teams each member votes on a Top 25 and we tabulate the results. Ten of the members are coaches. Eight of them are split up into a district and represent a region of the country. Two are at-large members and the remaining two are myself and a co-chair. Houston Christian has a good program and we have our eye on them. Our representative in Texas has a long list of contacts and also works with the Texas coaches’ poll so you can be sure that Houston Christian will get a fair chance.
