Pirates Throw A Curve

Daniel Moskos goes fourth to the Pirates, and the lefthander out of Clemson adds to the Pirates’ recent track record of taking pitchers in the first round. They have taken a pitcher eight of the last 10 years with their first pick. Moskos could close or start and has done both this year for the Tigers, and has done well as a starter. He’s 3-5, 2.91 with six saves and 74 strikeouts in 74 innings heading into a super-regional this weekend against Mississippi State.

In starts of late, Moskos’ velocity has sat at 90-92 mph, and he has a low-80s slider to go with a curveball and changeup. While he has good stuff, he has not dominated in his first extended stint as a college starter.

After 47 years of being a Pirate fan I am not surprised but extremely disappointed. This franchise is a joke.

I like this pick. Obviously the Torres not being able to get an out situation coupled with the insane cost of relievers and the lack of any back end of the bullpen prospects outside of Capps fueled this decision. Hopefully they have better luck this time with a college arm.

Ahhh…my Pirates. Bad enough to let Wieters go….think they are cheap???….they pick a good, but not great LHP who will be a reliever in the pros. Unless he turns out to be Hoffman or ROLLIE FINGERS, my Buccos have , again , taken the wrong player with their pick at 4. Can’t wait for the day Dave Littlefield gets that Hall of Fame nod. Steven King couldn’t write this stuff.

Lefty, decent velocity, middle of the rotation pitcher. Sounds like Paul Maholm to me. This organization is the worst in pro sports — and it’s not even close.
