Former Arizona State righthander Jason Jarvis will be eligible for the 2008 draft, according to his agent.
Oscar Suarez, who also represents big leaguers such as Oscar Villareal and Joakim Soria, said he received word from Major League Baseball that Jarvis’ appeal to enter the ‘08 draft was granted. MLB was expected to inform clubs that Jarvis, an unsigned 25th-round pick in 2006, can be selected Friday or over the weekend.
Jarvis pitched at Arizona State as a freshman and briefly as a sophomore this spring before being ruled academically ineligible last week. Suarez said Jarvis will prepare for the draft by signing with and playing for the Lincoln Salt Dogs of the independent American Association. Jarvis, who both hit and pitched in college, will focus on pitching in pro ball. The Salt Dogs are managed by former Blue Jays manager Tim Johnson.
