Twins Draft Byron Buxton

The Twins picked second but got the No. 1 player on the BA 500.

The Astros took shortstop Carlos Correa No. 1 overall, and the Twins followed by selecting Georgia prep outfielder Byron Buxton. While the Twins have stated publicly that they wanted pitching in this draft, particularly power arms, they didn't pass on the top talent in the 2012 draft crop.

The Twins haven't drafted this high since taking Joe Mauer first overall in 2001. It's the fourth time in the last decade they've picked a prep center fielder with their top selection, following Denard Span (2002), Ben Revere (2007) and Aaron Hicks (2008).
