Sandwich Pick Notes

Three quick notes on supplemental first-round picks:

  • The Rays signed Santiago HS (Corona, Calif.) shortstop Brandon Martin last Saturday for $860,000, which is $1,400 above MLB's recommendation for the No. 38 overall pick. Martin is a standout defender with a line-drive bat and average speed. Tampa Bay now has signed eight of its record 12 picks in the first two rounds, with Vanderbilt lefthander Grayson Garvin (No. 59) likely to be next.
  • Deer Creek HS (Edmond, Okla.) righthander Michael Fulmer agreed to terms with the Mets, he announced via his Twitter account (@MFulmer12) last Thursday. The deal has yet to be finalized, and no terms have been released. MLB's guideline for his No. 44 slot is $776,700.
  • Likewise, Central Arizona JC outfielder Keenyn Walker Tweeted (via @Keenyn_Walker) that he had come to terms with the White Sox on Wednesday. The deal is still not official and terms are unavailable. The commissioner's office recommends a $739,800 bonus for his No. 47 slot.
