Matthews joins Chris Reed, Joe Panik and Jake Hager as another off-the-board choice for the first round for the Rangers at 33rd-overall. Despite being just 5-foot-10 and 160-pounds, Matthews is a great athlete that compares favorably to current Ranger prospect Robbie Ross. Matthews has touched 94-95 mph with his fastball, though he's usually in the 87-90 range. His tight curveball gives him a solid-average secondary pitch. He hasn't shown much of a changeup. Matthews' handle on Twitter is "UVAbound11," which gives a hint at the strength his Virginia commitment.
