The Yankees have yet to sign a 2010 draftee to a seven-figure bonus, but they have handed out six deals in excess of MLB's slot guidelines. New York's most recent above-slot bonus went to ninth-rounder Taylor Morton, who signed for $450,000, three times the commissioner's office-recommended maximum for choices after the fifth round.
A righthander from Bartlett (Tenn.) High who had committed to Tennessee, Morton showed inconsistent velocity this spring but pitched at 92-93 mph at times and had touched 95 mph in the past. He also shows some feel for a changeup.
