Giants Land Parker For $700,000

The Giants have signed Virginia outfielder Jarrett Parker, their second-round pick, for $700,000. San Francisco also is close to a deal with another college outfielder, first-round pick Gary Brown from Cal State Fullerton, but no concrete details have emerged yet.

MLB's guideline for Parker's No. 74 slot is $492,300.

Parker looks like a blueprint for a big league outfielder with his 6-foot-4, 210-pound frame and package of tools. He has plus speed and power potential, and the center fielder could be a star if he makes more consistent contact.
