The Angels have signed two of their three first-round picks, East Coweta High (Sharpsburg, Ga.) righthander Cam Bedrosian for $1.116 million and Marietta (Ga.) High outfielder Chevez Clarke for $1.089 million.
Bedrosian, the No. 29 selection, and Clarke, the No. 30 choice, both received $9,000 above MLB's estimated 2009 recommendations for their draft slots. Cook High (Adel, Ga.) third baseman/righthander Kaleb Cowart, the No. 18 pick, is Los Angeles' only unsigned pick among its nine choices in the first four rounds.

It's a shame that Cowart won't be allowed to sign until the deadline. I'm very interested in seeing him in pro ball, and that isn't very likely to happen until April 2011.
Posted by Jeff | July 2, 2010 at 10:53 pm | ShortcutI am curious as to what Cowart can't sign until the deadline. The other two Angels top 2 draftees signed Friday.

Posted by sarahb | July 4, 2010 at 3:29 pm | ShortcutCowart can't or won't be officially signed until near the end of the signing deadline (8/16) due to his asking for a bonus substantially over MLB's recommended slot for the #18 pick. Going into the draft the speculation was that he was asking for a much as $3 million. The league does not allow these type of deals to become published/official until the very end, so the other players/agents can not use the overslot money given to some players as leverage in their negotiations.
