How do you have a list like this and not include either of the Pepperdine draft-eligible studs, Cook and Bywater? Are they not prospects?

How is Danny Hultzen not a draft prospect?

Mack – Cook is generally included in the lists. However, he pitched on Thursday and the stats are automatically pulled for games Friday through Sunday.
Billy – We included a few sophomores on the list (all the draft-eligible standouts plus a few of the top guys for next year), but Hultzen just missed the cut.

Saw Adam Champion pitch at ular good pitcher tall lefty. Also Garrett Graziano pitched he looks like he will be good to sat next to a scout he liked both pitchers. I think Adam is a sr. and Garrett a JR.

You left off Nick Pepitone from Tulane who is a Junior RHP who had a win Friday night
and a save Saturday in game one of a doubleheader.

Both Jessie Hahn (VTech) & Matt Harvey (UNC) are potential 1st rounders this year.  If this were to happen, have two H.S. team mates ever been drafted in the 1st round of the same draft before?

Yes, most recently Matt Dominguez and Mike Moustakas of Chatsworth (Calif.) High in 2007.

Hultzen *just missed the cut*? He's a known back of first round caliber talent for 2011 and is now sporting a WHIP of .588 and a 43-4 K-BB (for old schoolers he's 4-1 with a 1.06 ERA). Rather than say he *just missed* (he's pitched at a superior level since inning one this season), why not just admit that you goofed and give the kid his due? Not to harp on the failings of the list (you guys get way more right than wrong) but you also whiffed on Kyle Parker, who has started hot and is only getting hotter. Churchill has been giving him coverage for the last couple of weeks, and if it weren't for the QB job in the fall and the doubts that casts, Parker would be making a compelling case for best college position player in a somewhat weak year. At the very least he has to now be considered a Round One talent, which he needs to be if he's going to forgo football.

Blackie – We had to draw a line somewhere, so there aren't a lot of sophomores listed: it's basically the draft-eligible guys and then the top 10 regular sophomores. So, yes, Hultzen just missed. That doesn't take anything away from what he's doing this season.

That's fine, Conor, but why draw a line that excludes Hultzen but includes Ryan Carpenter? Or Austin Maddox whose gaudy batting average and power numbers are masking an unsightly 13-1 K-BB? And that doesn't explain why Hultzen was excluded on the 3/22 report after his dominant start last Friday. I'd understand if he was just some crafty college senior, but the guy is a bonafide Day One prospect…

Re-reading your reply I'm even more confused. WHo are the ten (or more?) sophomores better than Hultzen. A consider that a solid case could be made that he's one of the top ten pitchers in college at the moment performance-wise.

Blackie – if you want to know who the 10 sophomores ahead of Hultzen are, all you have to do is count them.

Oh, I did. Cole, Rendon and Jungmann are the only sophs clearly ahead of everyone in their class, so everyone after that is a choice. Again, not my fault that you guys chose Cone, Carpenter and Meyer to name three. But hey, tell me it's free again. That always makes me feel better. I mean, why should you have to defend your choices, right? It's only your job.

I used the Top 50 By Class list to pick who to include and who had to be left off. The 10 sophomores that show up in these lists are all listed above Hultzen.

Yeah, I did the math. It's the only way I could figure that Carpenter made it on there at all. It was wishcasting on the pre-season class lists too. Oh well. Slainte.
