Paxton Heading Back To Kentucky

Blue Jays supplemental first-round pick James Paxton did not sign before the deadline and will head back to Kentucky, a source confirmed. Paxton, a junior lefthander, rocketed up draft boards midway through the spring by running his lively fastball up to 97 mph and showing an above-average curveball, but he struggled down the stretch and finished with a 5.86 ERA. Paxton will team with righthander Alex Meyer to form one of the nation’s most talented one-two punches in the Kentucky weekend rotation.

Any word on Barrett and Eliopolous?

kentucky now seems to be right in the hunt with james paxton returning ,along with alex myer the young phenom, and braden kapteyn.additionally the cats have one of the best recruiting classes ,ranked fourth in the nation.the ky infield will return three of its veterans ,the outfield comes back and ky has several outstanding catchers.mid week pitchers are the only question marks .nick kennedy is among pitchers expected to shine. chris bisson is the best infielder in the league.watch the cats.should be interesting …..gary henderson certainly is one of the more accomplished coaches in the sec..watch the cats.

Thomas, I agree with you. Don’t forget Logan Darnell, who starred in the Alaskan League this summer and incomign freshman phenom Jordan Cooper. The rotation will among the best in the nation!

Will the Blue Jays get a compensation pick for not signing Paxton? The pick was compensation for losing Burnett as a free agent. I thought compensation picks didn’t get additional compensation if the player doesn’t sign. Or does that not apply to free agent compensation?
