Orioles, Tolliver Agree On $200,000

The Orioles and fifth-round pick Ashur Tolliver have agreed on a $200,000 bonus, pending the results of a physical today. MLB’s recommendation for Tolliver’s draft slot (146th overall) was $174,600. Tolliver’s bonus matches Daniel Tuttle’s (Reds, 149th overall) as the highest in the fifth round this year.

After transferring from Arkansas-Little Rock to NAIA power Oklahoma City this year, the lefthanded Tolliver caught the attention of scouts when his fastball topped out at 96 mph early in the spring. He’s not big at 6 feet and 170 pounds, and he wore down, with his fastball sitting at 88-92 mph as the draft approached. His changeup is his best secondary pitch, ahead of his curveball.
