The Marlins have signed second-round pick Bryan Berglund for $572,500. His bonus is slightly more than MLB’s $554,400 recommendation for his draft slot (No. 66).
A righthander from Royal High (Simi Valley, Calif.), Berglund has a 90-92 mph fastball and a slider that projects as a possible plus pitch. He had committed to Loyola Marymount.

I’m confused. What’s the point in Bryan Burgland holding off until 5 hours before the deadline to sign a deal for $17K over slot? Certainly, MLB could have approved this a month ago. The whole system makes no sense.

Posted by TJ | August 17, 2009 at 6:28 pm | ShortcutYeah, I was wondering about Curtis as well. I haven’t seen anything on the progress of his signing. Any of the prepsters drafted on the last day going to make it into the organization besides Perio?
Thanks so much, guys. Great coverage.
