If I remember correctly, the Rockies should be in a good position. They’ve signed 28 of their top 30 picks, and haven’t had to go drastically over slot for any of them. They already have received excellent quality up top with Wheeler and Brothers — both of which seemed like they could go as early as the mid-teens, based on what was reported here and elsewhere.

So, the Rox should have money to make a very good offer, but they don’t have the pressure of NEEDING to bring in a first round talent for the draft, as they already locked up two in Wheeler/Brothers. My uninformed thoughts are that a deal will get done for a sizeable, but not record-breaking, amount.

Re Miller: As I said with Matzek, the elite high school pitching talks are moving slowly. I’ll be surprised if Miller doesn’t sign, but we’re probably going to have to wait until Monday for it.

Re Matzek: As with all the talks involving the elite high school pitchers, that’s moving slow. He’s the first-rounder most likely not to sign, but I wouldn’t write him off. Negotiations haven’t progressed much beyond the preliminaries.
