The Dodgers signed Maize (Kan.) High righthander Garrett Gould for $900,000 on Friday. His bonus is the highest in the second round so far this year and the highest paid by Los Angeles. Gould was the Dodgers’ third choice in the draft and received $337,500 more than MLB’s recommendation for his draft slot (No. 65).
Gould’s fastball jumped from 88-91 last year to 91-94 mph this spring, and he also had one of the best curveballs in the draft. He has an athletic 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame, though some scouts don’t like his arm action. He had committed to Wichita State.
