The Athletics have signed Yuba City (Calif.) High catcher Max Stassi for $1.5 million. That breaks the fourth-round bonus record set just a few days ago by the Royals’ Chris Dwyer at $1.45 million.

Great news! Now lets get Green signed.
Posted by Dan | August 17, 2009 at 2:21 pm | ShortcutI read in previous comments that he turned down $2 million. Interesting.
What is the status of Green? I have not heard anything about him over the past few weeks. Is he expected to sign?
Posted by Brett | August 17, 2009 at 2:22 pm | ShortcutI’d previously read that he wanted $1.5M with Oak offering $1.25M – if so (big if), Oakland did the right thing by caving, I think – I love this guy’s swing.
Posted by Petey Pablo | August 17, 2009 at 2:24 pm | ShortcutYeah you don’t want to miss out on a prospect like Stassi for the sake of $250k
Posted by Dan | August 17, 2009 at 2:30 pm | ShortcutWho cares what the A’s do. It’s not like they are going to win something. Beane is like a stock trader, jsut buying and selling junk all the time for a tiny profit. It’s not like he can actually build a competitive team for once. The other teams he inherited franchise cornerstones.
Posted by Stringed Bean | August 17, 2009 at 2:31 pm | ShortcutGreat job by the A’s to get Stassi to move off his $2M.
Any word on the status of Kyle Gibson with the Twins? That’s a big fish…
Posted by Ryan | August 17, 2009 at 2:33 pm | ShortcutAny comment that he turned down $2 million was incorrect.
Posted by John Manuel | August 17, 2009 at 2:39 pm | ShortcutI assume the focus is on Green, but will there be anything left over for Krol?
Posted by nick | August 17, 2009 at 2:52 pm | ShortcutAny updates on Green and Krol?
Posted by Gary | August 17, 2009 at 2:52 pm | ShortcutThat’s great news! One down and two to go. I knew Green would go down to the wire, just the nature of the business with a high draft pick and Boras, so I’m not really worried about that. But I really hope a deal gets done with Krol too.
Posted by Toni | August 17, 2009 at 3:01 pm | ShortcutAny news on the status of Kyle Roller – Cape League MVP?
Posted by Lee | August 17, 2009 at 3:17 pm | ShortcutHey Stringed, Haven’t you heard BB is a genius. Just ask him
Posted by Fred Sikes | August 17, 2009 at 5:13 pm | ShortcutIt’s long past time that the A’s paid a h.s. talent like Stassi. I will never understand the cult of Billy Beane.
