Nathan, Get job! What can you tell me about another 2011 prospect at TOS. Deion Williams, Redan High. I have spoken with several scouts and they raved about his projecton and upsize. Viewing the rosters at TOS, he was listed as the youngest player there (11/11/92). Noticed on USA website, he hit a respectable .286 at TOS. Thanks and keep up the good work.

I spoke with Karsten's dad recently to clear all that up and there is no relation. We have his dad as Kent in Prospects Plus. As Conor mentioned before his reference to Ed Whitson was a mistake on his part. Perfect Game has Ed Whitson related as a famous relative but Karsten's dad did not give them that information.

Read on the PG ToS report (Day 2 notebook) that Karsten was Ed's son. Not that they couldn't be wrong, but it would be surprising that they stated it unequivocally if so.

Also, had been wondering and have verified that Karsten Whitson is the son of former major leaguer, Ed Whitson. Somewhat less surprising that he's talented and fairly polished then. Ed was a pretty decent pitcher for a few years.

Thanks for clarifying, Nathan, and thanks for the great reporting. Cole and Taillon were expected to make a splash, but it's unexpected performances, like Whitson's, that make your reports crucial. I'll be waiting on that Top 25 for '10. Seems like the interest in future drafts intensifies every year.

Blackie - Taillon was there and was very impressive. He'll be in the write up after I make some calls. He sat 92-93 and touched 94 in his first outing, breaking several bats and inducing bad contact. His slider, which came in at 81 mph, was also pretty nasty. His second outing was about the same. Cole and Taillon were the top two guys there and Whitson really climbed our board, which you'll find when we come out with our Top 25 for the 2010 class.

Jeff - I wasn't in USA's meetings so I don't know all the details. But I do know that Cole was unavailable for the tournament in September. I'm not sure about Cabrera. Bryant was disappointing. He had just one hit in nine at-bats, struck out five times, popped a lot of balls up in BP and only started two games. Since I wasn't in the meetings I can't say that was the reason he was left off, but it's a possibility.
