And I just got my makeup done here at MLB Network, so I look pretty.
As mentioned in this morning’s complete first-round projection, many of the projected first-round high schoolers threw out bigger asking prices than expected. As a result, two of the most signable prep prospects will be the second and third taken.
These eight picks look fairly certain:
1. Nationals: San Diego State righthander Stephen Strasburg.
2. Mariners: North Carolina first baseman Dustin Ackley.
3. Padres: Georgia HS outfielder Donavan Tate.
4. Pirates: Boston College catcher Tony Sanchez.
5. Orioles: California HS righthander Matt Hobgood.
6. Giants: Georgia HS righthander Zack Wheeler.
7. Braves: Vanderbilt lefthander Mike Minor.
8. Reds: North Carolina righhander Alex White.
The Tigers are deciding whether to spend big (California HS lefthander Tyler Matzek, Missouri HS righty Jacob Turner), smaller (Texas HS righty Shelby Miller) or a little smaller (Arizona State RHP Mike Leake). Stay tuned.

Posted by Spike | June 9, 2009 at 4:03 pm | ShortcutIt is about time a team steps in and stops picking on signability. All these teams are bad and picking early because they haven’t learned from past mistakes.
Posted by Brad | June 9, 2009 at 4:05 pm | ShortcutWhy are the Braves taking Mike Minor? Signability? This is an awful selection by Clark. Worst of his tenure in Atlanta.
Posted by Eric | June 9, 2009 at 4:10 pm | ShortcutDear God, please dont let Sanchez be the pick for Pittsburgh… the city will destroy the Pittsburgh Brass if this happens.
Posted by Noah | June 9, 2009 at 4:11 pm | ShortcutThe Pittsburgh brass is going cheap on the draft so they can afford to pick up Miguel Sano. Their farm system will be fine.
Posted by Rob | June 9, 2009 at 4:13 pm | ShortcutSee, thats the horrible thinking as to why they wont be good…
You have the 4th pick you pick up someone like Matzek, Turner, Green, Crow… and then you add Sano… your farm system is way better off than if they pick Sanchez.
Posted by Noah | June 9, 2009 at 4:16 pm | ShortcutThe Pittsburgh Pirates have to be right up there with the Detroit Lions as the worst franchise in all of sports.
