Strasburg can go to Japan, but that wouldn’t make him a free agent. According to MLB, he’d just re-enter the 2010 draft if he wanted to come back to the United States. He’d still be a U.S. citizen and subject to the draft. Turning down $15 million or more would involve a lot of risk. Even a little slippage by Strasburg would result in a reduced bonus, not to mention he’d be delaying his timetable for major league free agency by waiting another year to sign.

Question – Boras has stated that Strasburg would go to Japan if the demands aren’t met – can that occur? And, wouldn’t the Japanese love to turn the table on MLB by getting “the best prospect ever”?

As a Nationals fan, I definitely want them to draft and sign Strasburg. But I definitely think Jim Bowden’s comments now are as relevant as they were when he was the GM. Shut up Jim. Don’t you understand why your not GM anymore?
