Arizona State righthander Mike Leake pitched a gem tonight at home against Oregon—not that it should necessarily surprise you, as Leake’s been one of the most consistently-good performers in college baseball this season. He tossed his fifth complete game of the year, and his first shutout in the Sun Devils’ 9-0 win. Over the nine innings, Leake allowed just three hits—two of which were soft choppers up the middle—no walks and struck out 12.

The outing was notable for Leake, as the nine shutout innings lowered his season ERA from 1.47 to 1.35—10 points lower than Floyd Bannister’s aluminum-bat era ERA record from 1976.

When he wasn’t sending Ducks back to the dugout via the strikeout, they were rolling over everything. Here is Leake’s ball-in-play breakdown from the game tonight:

If you’re doing the math in your head, you’ll notice that only equals 26 outs—the other out came on a pickoff snap throw down to first by Carlos Ramirez.

This was Leake’s eighth career game with 10 or more strikeouts and his  consistency this year has been remarkable. Over 14 appearances, he is now 13-1 with 116 strikeouts 62 hits allowed, and 18 walks issued over his NCAA Division I-leading 107 innings. Leake will likely start next Friday’s game against UCLA before regional play begins.
