The Red Sox announced the signing of California high school shortstop Ryan Dent on Monday. Dent, the 62nd overall pick, signed for $571,000 and reduced the total of unsigned supplemental first-rounders to three.
Dent’s deal exceeded MLB’s slot recommendation of $526,500, and was $500 less than Boston gave its other sandwich pick, Washington lefthander Nick Hagadone, at No. 55.
The unsigned supplemental first-rounders are Georgia high school lefthander Josh Smoker (Nationals, No. 31), Tennessee outfielder Julio Borbon (Rangers, No. 35) and Virginia prep righty Neil Ramirez (Rangers, No. 44). All three are expected to sign before Wednesday’s 11:59 p.m. Eastern deadline.
